Pseudodiaptomus pelagicus is the large, active water column copepod that dominates open-water zones in reef aquariums. These impressive 1.5-2.0mm calanoid copepods exhibit distinctive swimming behavior—rapid darting movements through mid-water that trigger aggressive feeding responses from anthias, chromis, fairy wrasses, and other planktivorous fish. Their substantial size and high visibility make them premium live food for fish that ignore smaller copepod species.

Perfect for fish-focused reef systems, Pseudodiaptomus fills the ecological role of larger zooplankton found on natural reefs. Their free-swimming planktonic lifestyle keeps them constantly available in the water column where active hunters can pursue them. Unlike benthic species that hide in rockwork, Pseudodiaptomus remains exposed and vulnerable—exactly what aggressive feeders prefer. The calanoid body structure provides excellent meat-to-shell ratio with high protein and omega-3 content.
